Applause (dt. Applaus) ist ein Lied der US-amerikanischen Popsängerin Lady Gaga aus ihrem kommenden dritten Studioalbum ARTPOP. Geschrieben und produziert wurde der Titel von Lady Gaga und DJ White Shadow. Veröffentlicht wurde das Lied am 12. August 2013 als Leadsingle des Albums ARTPOP. Die Veröffnelichung als Single war für den 19. August 2013 vorhergesehen, jedoch wurden bereits am 10. August 2013 zwei Previews des Liedes hochgeladen, wodurch Lady Gaga den Titel eine Woche früher veröffentlichte. Angekündigt wurde Applause Anfang 2013 als Lady Gaga den Liedtext zum Lied veröffentlichte.

Aufnahme

Geschrieben und produziert wurde das Lied von Gaga selbst zusammen mit DJ White Shadow während der Born This Way Ball im Jahr 2012. Es wurde bereits Anfang 2013 spekuliert ob das Lied Teil Gagas kommenden Albums ARTPOP wird, nachdem sie die Lyrics zum Lied unter dem Titel „The Applause“ auf Twitter veröffentlichte. Im Juli 2013 bestätigte Gaga, dass Applause am 19. August 2013 veröffentlicht werden soll. Jedoch wurde der Titel bereits eine Woche früher veröffentlicht, nachdem am 10. August 2013 zwei Previews des Liedes geleaked sind.
